Bel Canto Singers is a community children’s chorale for children in grades 3 through 7.  Bel Canto means beautiful, perfect singing in Italian.  Participants should love to sing and be willing to commit weekly time and focus to be part of a choir that strives for a high standard in performance, production of sound, discipline, stage presence, and appearance.  The choir sings high-quality classical children’s musical literature in two- and three-part harmony.  Admission into the choir is by audition only, which are gentle and easy.  Bel Canto is looking for children who can match pitch and love to sing.

Rehearsals are different and fun with harmonic parts and rhythms often taught through movement and listening.  Props are used, such as parachutes, co-oper-bands, and stretchies.  Stage poise is developed by playing theatre and movement games, since difficult concepts are much easier to learn once they have been internalized through motion through the body.

Adult professional instrumentalists often accompany the choir playing instruments such as the harp, trumpet, guitar, and various percussion instruments.  The accompanist for the choir is Kathryn C. Ward.

The choir meets Mondays at SonRise Church from 4:15 – 5:45 p.m.  The choir follows D-70’s schedule and performs at least once per semester.  As the choir becomes more established, more performances will be scheduled.  Tuition is $75.00 per semester, with concert attire as an additional cost.
