Discipleship Zone Leaders: Pastors Dave and Rhonda York

Walk to Emmaus

Walk to Emmaus is a three-day spiritual retreat that begins with a three-day short course on Christianity.  It is an opportunity to meet Jesus Christ in a new way as God’s grace and love is revealed to you through other believers.   You will leave the weekend with an experience of Christian love in action that will equip you for new levels of grace-filled service and leadership.  Pastor Dave says “Walk to Emmaus was one of the best spiritual experiences of my life.  It changed the direction of my life as I experienced God’s grace.”

The Men’s Walk and the Women’s Walk will be this fall; call for exact dates.  Both retreats will be held at Hermit Basin Retreat Center in Westcliffe, Colorado.  The cost is $170.00; scholarships are available if the cost is a barrier to attending.  Space is limited, so reservations must be made as soon as possible.

Jesus Study

What you won’t find with this Jesus Study group is answers in the back of the book.  You will find some strikingly different ways of viewing Jesus; ways that, in many cases, are equally as old as the New Testament.

In the past, the study of Jesus was done by theologians who surprisingly have had little interest in Jesus of Nazareth, concentrating instead on the “Christ of Faith.”  When they have paid attention to the historical Jesus, the attention has been brief and concerned with proof texting for the purpose of supporting their theories about the “Christ of Faith.”  Our study concentrates on New Testament scholars in universities, teachers who have spent many years studying Jesus.  Their first concern is to know who Jesus was, and they take historical information seriously, something most theologians today dismiss as unimportant.

This study is facilitated by a retired United Methodist minister and New Testament scholar.  The group meets Tuesday mornings at 9:00 a.m. at SonRise Church.  There is a book that participants purchase.
