The Handy Men of SonRise Church provide incidental handy-man services for those in need. Work will be provided for a wide range of projects, such as basic plumbing, moving furniture, or simple electronics – anything not requiring a license or permit. Those volunteering should have basic homeowner skills and/or a willingness to learn. Scheduling of projects will be done through a coordinator, who will ask for volunteers from the group as to who is able and willing to complete each project. There will be a minimum of two people working at each job site.

The Care Ministry Team is a laity group that provides support and encouragement for people who are in the hospital, nursing homes, or at home. Care may come in the form of a phone call, personal visit, card, or meeting a need. We provide care on an on-going basis as people have pastoral care needs. Our clergy are always available for crisis situations and emergencies. If you like to visit with people who are in need and can provide caring and support for them, this may be the ministry for you!
The Care Ministry Team meets Tuesday evenings as needed.

Volunteers in Mission (VIM) |
|
VIM is a Rocky Mountain Conference program that provides help to churches or groups that have pressing construction or painting needs and few resources to do the job. Our task, as a local “Volunteers in Mission” team, will be to learn of projects through the Conference VIM where help is needed, and to find interested church members who are willing to help with the project. We can also, as church members, inform the Conference of a need. Volunteers are needed to serve on a committee, to help organize our work efforts, and to pitch in and help do the actual construction. Examples of past projects are Hurricane Katrina recovery work, Windsor recovery work, and painting a church in Granada. The dates, times, and locations for projects are to be announced.

Story Time at La Vista and Youth Offender System |
|
Story Time seeks to keep DOC inmates in touch with their young children. This is an open group that meets the third and fourth Monday evenings each month. Interested inmates sign up through the prison for this service. At least two volunteers at a time from this Story Time group go to the prison, meet with the approved inmate(s), and record them reading a provided children’s book. The tape and book are then sent to the inmate’s child. Another way to serve through this ministry is by donating new books or money for purchasing mailing envelopes.

Local Outreach Mission Team |
|
The Local Outreach Mission Team is an administrative committee for most of the all-church local outreach projects. They meet regularly to plan and discuss upcoming projects.
The team works with the SonRise staff, congregation, and local contacts to determine what the needs are in the community. They then provide the administrative support to the church in order to fulfill the needs. They also help plan local mission trips for the congregation, including youth.
Anyone with a passion for local outreach is welcome to join this team at anytime.
